WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE

This year major actions were carried out on strengthening WASH in the PVTG communities. In this regard, 32 water sources have been renovated to ensure safe drinking water for the PVTG communities. More than 200 families have adapted the hygiene practices among the communities. Community women and adolescents also initiated proper menstrual hygiene behaviors. These hygiene and sanitation and related changes in behavior resulted in decreased diseases incidence among the community. The community also prepared soak pits, garbage pits and also initiated the proper use of the drained water used in the kitchen garden.

Major Achievements

  • During this year more than 220 families have changed their water-related hygiene behavior as the family members now use to utilize water pots, hand wash after defecation.
  • Children of schools and  AWCs have again been targeted under hygiene practices but results were not found due to its closure.
  • 3 water sources have been renovated for the safe drinking water in the operational areas under the Boarijore block of Godda district whereas 12 platforms and others were also repaired in the area for access to the community on safe drinking water.
  • Construction of nearly 110 compost Pits to train the villagers in the method of decomposition of the organic waste material and convert it into usable fertilizer to promote vegetable production in the rural areas ensuring the health and economic sustainability.

To conserve the rainwater and to mitigate the drought situation 2 water harvesting tanks have been renovated through the gram sabha under MREGS. It is expected to cover, more than 100 acres of land that have been irrigated to protect the paddy crop from draught.
